Introduction
In the first years of the 1990s, the city of Fano invited the Mayors of the cities in Italy who were interested in adhering to the project, promoted the initiatives that involved hundreds of cities and schools, organized national meeting for children, educators and administrators. In 1996 the Institute of Cognitive Sciences and Technologies (then called the Institute of Psychology) in Rome, of the National Council of Research set up a research group towards the support and coordination of the cities that adhered to the international project "The City of Children" and for the study of the effects of its activities on the changes in the urban environments.
