Mobility
The mobility of children, that till a few decades ago was similar to that of their parents, today has almost disappeared while that of adults has increased enormously. Today children cannot go out into the streets because their parents move around too much making the streets and the public areas of the city dangerous. The cities are dying due to the traffic, carbon monoxide, gas fumes that are corroding the monuments. They are dying because cars count more than their owners and it is difficult, sometimes impossible, to move around on foot in one's own city. Children are pure pedestrians, they have no alternatives and so they protest, they ask the administrators to allow them to be able to leave their houses, to cross the streets, to use the squares, without their parents being afraid. Over the last ten years, experience has shown that the presence of children in the street for the purpose of going to school and looking for playmates, re-creates, in adults, social conditions of responsibility and protection and therefore safety conditions for the children themselves. |
