The Role of the School
The school can have a decisive role in the success of the initiative. It has to take this activity upon itself and include it in the proposed formative plan as the correct program for environmental and road education on the one hand and as an important proposal towards the development of the autonomy and health of the children on the other. "The City of Children" Laboratory collaborates with the school and sustains its activities.
The classes study the individual routes of the children by using various tools which were studied purposely, then compare them and examine their difficulty. With the help of their teachers and the city police, they carry out on the spot investigations to verify the best routes and the most difficult places. On the basis of the analysis of the routes of the whole school, the meeting points are established where the children can meet in the morning in order to proceed together. The children prepare a list of requests to be presented to the administration for the interventions aimed at the safety of the routes. The initiative will begin when the children and their parents consider the conditions acceptable for everyone.
